Salt Lake City, Utah – Riley Smith, a 17-year-old high school student, tragically passed away on September 24, 2024, following a devastating motorcycle accident.
Riley’s accident occurred on a Monday evening, leading to immediate life-saving efforts, including being airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Despite undergoing multiple surgeries to address severe injuries, such as reattaching his right arm, repairing lacerations in his left hand, and treating fractures to his pelvis and legs, his condition deteriorated.
Doctors worked tirelessly to manage a brain bleed, compartment syndrome, and complications with his only kidney.
Unfortunately, after battling for 24 hours and undergoing extensive medical procedures, Riley succumbed to his injuries as his body could not endure further trauma.
His passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family, friends, and community.
Riley was the beloved son of Brandy and Chris Smith and the cherished brother of Hunter.
Family friends Nikki Nowers and Erin Gappmayer, in a heartfelt statement, shared their sorrow, stating, *“His absence from our family and this community is always going to be felt.
I’ll always be asking why it had to be Riley, but I know he’ll be watching over us all.”*
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Riley’s family during this painful time as the community comes together to grieve the loss of a bright young soul taken too soon.
