Trout Creek, Ontario – The family of Oneita Anne Ewin (née Eckensviller) mourns her passing on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She passed away peacefully at Water’s Edge Long-Term Care in North Bay at the age of 95. Oneita was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, remembered for her strong dedication to family and community.
Oneita is survived by her children, Traci Ibbitson (John) of Callander and Bill Ewin of Sault Ste. Marie. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan, Scott, Megan, Jake, Alanis, Josh, and Josee, and great-grandmother to Scotty, Paisley, and Ember. She was predeceased by her parents, Alma (Oshell) and William Eckensviller, but leaves behind her siblings, Jack Eckensviller (Jeanette) of North Bay, Janice Grasser (Murray) of Trout Creek, Joyce Duguay of North Bay, and Gerry Eckensviller (Lucy) of Trout Creek.
A lifelong resident of Trout Creek, Oneita was well-known for her involvement in the community and her passion for sports. She worked for many years at Powassan’s Scotiabank and loved participating in activities like baseball, golf, curling, biking, walking, and cross-country skiing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Trout Creek on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Family and friends are invited to offer their respects from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with a reception at the Trout Creek Community Centre afterward.
The family has expressed their gratitude to the staff at Water’s Edge for their compassionate care of Oneita during her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sacred Heart Church in memory of Oneita Ewin would be appreciated.
