Milford Teen Colson Carley Tragically Dies in Motorcycle Accident, Community Mourns Loss

Milford, Illinois – Colson Carley, a 17-year-old high school student from Milford and a basketball player at Cissna Park Senior High School, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, September 21, 2024. According to an Illinois State Police report, the accident occurred at around 4:39 p.m. on Illinois Route 1, just south of Iroquois County Road 1330 North.

Colson was riding his Yamaha motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered into the east ditch and struck a culvert. He was ejected from the motorcycle due to the impact and was later transported to Iroquois Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident has left the Milford community devastated. Colson was well-known for his athletic abilities and his infectious smile, as friends and classmates fondly remembered him.

A vigil and memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday in front of Cissna Park High School to honor Colson’s memory. The school has also made counselors and crisis support teams available for students and staff who need assistance during this difficult time.

Tributes have poured in for Colson, including heartfelt messages shared on Facebook. Madison Baer wrote, "I knew you as a little boy and man were you something with that little grin you had. I have so many memories running around with Carley and seeing you whenever we’d go to the farm. This is the memory I remember the most, doing swimming lessons with you. Your smile was contagious, Colson."

Jennifer Overbey also shared her condolences, simply posting, "Prayers continue for the Carley family."

The entire Milford and Cissna Park community continues to grieve this sudden loss. Colson’s contributions to his school, especially as a basketball player, and his bright personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
