Michele Henderson, SMU Graduate and Kappa Alpha Theta Member, Passes Away at Age 72 in Houston, Texas

Houston, Texas – Michele Henderson, a beloved member of the Houston community and graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU), passed away on August 20, 2024, at the age of 72. Michele died peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Born on November 20, 1951, in Waco, Texas, Michele Henderson (née Woodward) grew up in a close-knit family, raised by her parents Mary Kay and Charles Woodward. She enjoyed a childhood filled with fashion, water sports, and family gatherings at Lake Waco.

After graduating from Richfield High School, Michele pursued a marketing degree at SMU, where she also became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta. It was during this time that she met Bob Henderson, her lifelong companion, and they married in May 1974. Together, they moved to Houston, where they raised their two daughters, Hilary and Whitney.

Michele’s life was marked by her love of family, friends, and a wide range of hobbies. She was deeply involved in her daughters’ school activities, frequently participating in PTAs and other school events. Michele was also known for her skills in fashion and interior design, and she enjoyed traveling, particularly on family trips to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Destin, Florida.

Her strong sense of style was especially highlighted by her preference for the color blue, which beautifully matched her striking blue eyes. Michele was an active competitor in games like bridge, Mahjong, and tennis, approaching each activity with passion and enthusiasm.

In 2022, Michele was diagnosed with brain cancer. However, she continued to live her life with grace and intention, spending time with her family, traveling, and embracing her role as a grandmother. Michele is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, and brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob.

Michele Henderson will be fondly remembered for her kindness, unwavering support of those around her, and her positive outlook on life. In her memory, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
