Painesville Township, Ohio – On the night of September 30, 2024, a domestic dispute escalated into a tense standoff involving Jeffry Wyman, 63, who is currently facing charges of felonious assault.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at the 1600 block of West Jackson Street, where Wyman allegedly shot his 56-year-old wife in the leg.
The victim was immediately transported to UH-Tripoint Medical Center and later flown to UH Hospitals in Cleveland for non-life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and alerted authorities, leading to the deployment of the Lake County Regional SWAT Team.
Wyman retreated into his residence, sparking a five-hour standoff, during which negotiators worked to de-escalate the situation.
After hours of tense negotiation, Wyman surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release regarding the incident, noting that additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
