Idabel, Oklahoma – Florida Lee Cary, a cherished member of the Idabel community, tragically passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 61. Known for her vibrant spirit and love for cooking, Florida touched the lives of many during her 29 years in local schools.
Born on June 5, 1963, in Red River County, Texas, Florida was the daughter of the late Dock and Vestella Cary. She grew up in a loving household and graduated from Detroit High School in 1982. After moving to Oklahoma, she dedicated her career to the Forest Grove School cafeteria, where she became a beloved figure to both students and staff.
For nearly two decades, Florida worked in the Idabel School System, serving meals that were infused with love and care. Her retirement, necessitated by health issues, did not diminish the profound impact she had on the community.
Florida is survived by her husband, Luther Gist, and her three children: Fredrick Cary, Florita Cary, and Sabrina Cary. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, bringing light to her life.
She leaves behind a close-knit family, including several siblings who provided support throughout her life. Although she was preceded in death by three brothers, Florida’s memory will endure through the bonds she fostered.
A celebration of her life will take place on September 28, 2024, at the Idabel High School Auditorium, reflecting her deep ties to the educational community. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Siloam Cemetery in Bagwell, Texas.
