André Scholtz, Renowned South African Producer, Dies at 79 After a Prolonged Battle with Cancer

South Africa – André Scholtz, a veteran film and television producer, has passed away at the age of 79 after a long fight with cancer.

Known for his immense contributions to the South African entertainment industry, Scholtz’s career spanned over five decades.

His work included producing and co-writing more than 29 feature films, as well as various popular television dramas and comedies.

Scholtz collaborated frequently with comic book writer Leon Schuster, producing iconic films such as You Must be Joking, Sweet ‘n Short, and Oh Shucks! Schuster! His last major project, Mr. Bones 3: Son of Bones, was released in 2022, concluding a long period of creative collaboration.

In addition to his celebrated work with Schuster, Scholtz worked closely with his son on a series of films, ensuring the family legacy in cinema production would continue.

His extensive portfolio included notable South African films like Paw Paw vir my Darling and Toorbos.

Carmen Freemantle shared her condolences on Facebook, stating, "Dries Scholtz, my deepest condolences to you and your family. Your dad was a lovely man."
